Vitamin C (Ascorbic Acid)

Vitamin C, specifically in the form of ascorbic acid, is a potent antioxidant widely used in Korean skincare for its ability to brighten the skin, even out skin tone, and protect against environmental damage. This powerhouse ingredient promotes a radiant, youthful complexion while fighting signs of aging.

Benefits of Vitamin C (Ascorbic Acid): Known for its ability to neutralize free radicals, protecting the skin from UV damage and pollution. Its brightening properties help fade hyperpigmentation, dark spots, and acne scars, resulting in a more even skin tone. Ascorbic acid also promotes collagen production, improving skin elasticity and reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. With consistent use, vitamin C can dramatically enhance skin radiance, leaving the skin glowing and more youthful.

Ingredients That Work Well with Vitamin C (Ascorbic Acid): Works beautifully with other antioxidants like vitamin E and ferulic acid, as these combinations help stabilize the vitamin C and enhance its effectiveness. It also pairs well with hydrating ingredients like hyaluronic acid, which can offset any potential dryness from vitamin C. Niacinamide is another great complement, as it helps reduce inflammation and further brightens the skin, though some prefer to use these two ingredients at different times due to pH compatibility concerns.

Ingredients to Avoid Mixing with Vitamin C (Ascorbic Acid): Can be quite potent, so it’s best to avoid combining it with strong exfoliants like AHAs, BHAs, or retinoids in the same routine. These active ingredients can increase sensitivity and irritation when used with vitamin C. It’s also advisable to avoid mixing vitamin C with benzoyl peroxide, as this can reduce the effectiveness of both ingredients. For best results, alternate these actives or use them at different times of the day (e.g., vitamin C in the morning, retinoids or acids at night).
